FAQs

How many smoke alarms do I need to have?

Manufacturers and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) recommend placing an alarm in each bedroom. There should be one in the hallway between the kitchen and sleeping areas, if the hallway is 30 feet or longer, there should be one on each end. An alarm should be on each level of the home.

How often should I test my smoke alarms?

Most manufacturers recommend monthly testing. Simply pressing the test button is the best way to test them. All smoke alarms in the household should go off, if one does not go off call Smoke Alarm Solution to diagnose the issue.

How often should I replace my smoke/CO alarms?

Every 10 years alarms need replacement or when they do not test properly.

How often should I change the batteries in my alarms?

Every spring and fall is ideal, at minimum once a year.

Why do my alarms chirp?

Chirping intermittently is usually an indicator that it’s time to replace the battery if equipped. If replacing the battery does not eliminate the chirping, contact us, it may be time to replace your alarms.

Why do my alarms randomly go off?

Your alarms are most likely in need of being reset and cleaned. If they are younger than 10 years they should still have life left in them. If they are over 10 years old they should be replaced.
